Frequently Asked Questions
A little over 60 countries and territories. I have memorable experiences in each place I've visited.
It’s hard to choose! You love them all, just differently and for different reasons. But, anytime anyone asks I say Japan, Portugal, New Zealand, and Kenya have been my favorites so far. Vietnam really surprised me too, so it definitely earns a spot on that list. However, I have great memories in many places. It's the people that have made it amazing for me.
To be honest, no. I am naturally a vigilant person, so I am extra mindful when I traveling solo. I still have a good time, and I have certain things in place so I am extra safe when I travel.
Honey, I get it. Anyone who says you don't need money to travel is not being completely honest. Travel can be an investment, but that just means you have to be better at planning. Start saving, find a craft or monetize a hobby so that your side-hustle can pay for travel. Also, POINTS, POINTS, POINTS! Did I mention points? I was not making a lot of money after graduate school, but I used a credit card with minimum spending requirements to gather points to take me on my trip to Brazil that summer. You need money to travel but if you're strategic, you can get a great vacation.
It honestly depends on what I'm looking for, who I'm traveling with, and where I am going. I like to stay in places that are equal to or better than my own home. I don't like to spend a lot of money on where I'm staying, but I will. And if I can get a 5-star hotel for a reasonable price, I will. I've stayed in hostels, capsule hotels, and 5-star resorts. Everything served its purpose.
60+ countries is a lot. Half of the countries I visited was while I had a demanding career. I took advantage of my time off. Now, I am remote and can work from anywhere.
There are four things I never leave behind when I’m traveling internationally: passport, wallet, phone, pocket wifi. See more of my Travel Recommendations here.
People always ask how I take photos by myself, and it's a mix! Sometimes it's just selfies. Other times I bring my cheap phone tripod. Then there are times I hand my phone to a kind stranger or work with a hired photographer. And just like my mom always says: "Stand up straight" and take the photo.
T-Mobile, my Jewels! It has the best international plans and the service works for me. Also, I bring my pocket wifi everywhere I go just in case the service is not the best. Also, get a WhatsApp account. If you want the extra layer of coverage, get a SIM card. You’re fail-proof at this point when it comes to communication.)
It totally depends on who’s coming with me! If it’s family or friends and I planned the trip, I’m meticulous but still flexible. I like to know where we’re staying, what’s nearby, the best places to eat, and what’s going on during that season. Basically, I’m the planner you want in your corner.
But when I’m solo? Babyyy… I’ve touched down in countries like Sri Lanka with nothing but vibes and a vague idea. Not always the best plan, but when it’s just me, I’m way more go-with-the-flow — especially if I’m staying for a while. I let the destination reveal itself to me. It’s part adventure, part divine guidance, and sometimes part lessons learned and now you know better.
(Two people really made me take the steps to be serious and both are really good friends of mine. One complained about where I store all of my travel photos. They’re in my phone . And I started to run out of space so I needed somewhere to put them. Another pushed me to plan a trip for her friends and I wanted to find all the reasons to say no. When I was set on saying no in my head, it didn’t sit well with my spirit. So, I realized that I was allowing fear to guide my decision making. We don’t do that here. So, I said yes and the rest is history.)
Also, I didn’t really realize how my traveling encouraged others to set sail on their own as well. Traveling is my happy place so when I see others find true happiness in adventure, I feel like my mission has been accomplished.
